Movie Star Art
You’re not the only one searching for movie star art!
Over the last century, a lot has changed in the art world. The first half of the century was known for Picasso-style abstract art and cubism – which was extremely revolutionary at the time. But in the 1960s, a new form of art emerged – pop art. It boldly illustrated all things mass-produced and popular in modern society – including movie star art.
Andy Warhol famously created a series of pop art prints of Marilyn Monroe in bright, industrial colours. She was already such a popular icon, and her face so recognizable, that Warhol’s pop art portraits depicted Marilyn almost as a familiar product that had been mass-produced on a factory conveyor belt. Many artists have since used a similar technique when creating movie star art – bright and simplistic portraits of movie icons such as Audrey Hepburn, James Dean, Robert Deniro and of course Marilyn.
So the technique used in pop art paintings has become iconic in itself. It is one of the most popular styles of art for regular people, like you and me, to hang up in their living rooms – or to decorate the walls of trendy restaurants and stylish bars. Movie star art is both the talking-point and focal point of any room… We connect happy emotions with the image of these iconic people, so we can appreciate these pop art portraits more than abstract artwork that we may not truly understand without explanation.
In my hand-painted movie star art collection, I have made every piece unique and individual while still sticking to my same overall style. I usually work on a commission basis – where you, the customer, tells me which icon you love, what colour scheme the walls are and which size of canvas suits you best. So, essentially, we create the pop art portrait together!
So as you’re having a wander around my movie star art collection – think about this: which movie star has been your greatest inspiration? Who do you admire the most? And if it’s a unique gift for a loved one – who is their favourite icon?
