Want to Reveal the Pop Art Artist Behind the Pop Art?

My name is Konrad Sanders. I was born and bred in the big smoke of London. As the son of a graphic designer-photographer I was introduced to the world of art pretty much from day one. Drawing, painting and creating stuff have always been my passions in life … If you gave me some coloured paper, scissors and a gluestick – I could entertain myself for hours!

I took art as one of my A-Level subjects, at the Blackheath Conservatoire of Music and the Arts – where my final exam piece was a large collage portrait of Johnny Rotten (from the Sex Pistols), made from newspaper cutouts of the May Day riots and everything to do with Punk culture and anarchism in the UK. You can see it here! I then explored my creative talents further at Camberwell Art College, part of the University of the Arts London, where I dabbled in fine art, illustration, graphic design and pop art.

You’ve probably already guessed that I like painting peoples faces… Trying to capture an accurate likeness and with it the emotions and personality beyond the face, is something that has always fascinated me. I have also always loved the great pop art artists and their work – Andy Warhol, Lichtenstein, Eduardo Paolozzi, and have been influenced a lot by their bold and iconic styles.

Bringing together these 2 great loves of mine – pop art and faces – has allowed me to create artwork that I feel is approachable for everyone. Art that is not too abstract or pretentious- but pop art that everyone can enjoy in their living rooms, in their bedrooms, in cafes, restaurants and pubs… Affordable pop art portraits and paintings that you – as the one commissioning me – can be actively involved in the creative process and thus the finished painting.
